Hey guys!
Tomorrow I have a presentation to do for my Economy class. Fun, right? No, not really. It’s nerve wracking. Especially for me since I have stage fright. Not only do I not like talking in front of people, I despise presenting something in front of people.
The terror of saying something stupid or wrong frightens me to such a degree that the mere mention of a presentation makes me ill. However I’ve learned a few things over the years on how to handle public speaking. Here’s what’s up…
JUST BREATHE
Breathing in deeply with the diaphragm really helps to calm down my nerves. I’m sure there’s a scientific reason for it, but let’s not get into that. Breathing in for a few moments helps clear my head and organize what I’m suppose to say.
RELAX
I try to relax my body when I know I have to go up to present. Tensing up will only make things worst because you’ll be focused on what your body is telling you through the tenseness. Just try to relax your body so that you don’t pass out from stage fright.
LOOK PRETTY, FEEL PRETTY, GET THAT A
Wearing something comfortable or something pretty can boost confidence. Knowing that you look your best, makes you want to do your best.
TAKE THAT LAST OVERVIEW THEN GET TO WORK
Just give your presentation one last glance to make sure you know everything. Then just work it. Do what comes naturally to you when presenting.
Presenting a project or just talking in front of a class is always something that someone either dreads or loves. Sometimes we just have to grin and bear it. Just remember that, that one moment doesn’t define you. If you mess up, it’s okay. If you don’t, it’s okay. Life goes on and you might never see those people ever again. Unless they’re your business partners. Then maybe try a little but more than in school.
That’s it for today! How do you handle presenting projects to a group of people? What do you do if you have stage fright?
