M IS FOR MISCHIEF MANAGED – A to Z Blogging Challenge

Hey everyone!

Minor spoilers for Harry Potter if you haven’t read/watched it yet.

Mischief managed is one of the most iconic lines from Harry Potter. I associate the phrase mainly with the Weasley twins, however it was created by James Potter and his friends to open the Marauders Map. The Weasley twins are some of my favorite characters in the series. I love their mischievous ways, but sometimes they don’t think things through. I think their sorting into Gryffindor wasn’t fully thought out. They have a lot of Slytherin or Ravenclaw traits. However, I’m not here to debate their sorting.

Mischief managed is a phrase that can be applied to life. Not only with pranks, but with important events.

Mischief managed you say as you get revenge on someone.

Mischief managed you say as you get the job.

Mischief managed you say as you figure out the murderer in your book.

Okay that last one is a stretch, but whatever. The point is, mischief managed is a phrase that you can apply to anything. The devious ways to get to where you are now are something you should embrace. There’s no shame in being a little mischievous. Sometimes, you need to get a little devious to get what you want.

What do you think about the connotations of mischief managed?
