Hey everyone!
If you haven’t read my last post, then you may not know about the bare basics that I’ve decided to do for the new year in general. Choosing a new word for this year with resolutions and habits after reading so much on why they don’t work has forced me to think through the best ways to grow this year.
Podcasts are a large reason why I’m getting my resolutions and habits done. I’ve been favoring podcasts lately because I can listen to them while doing something else. Practicing my watercolor as I listen to new ideas enforces what I’m learning. I’m associating a motion with an idea. The new painting that I create becomes associated with an idea so whenever I look back at the painting, I’m reminded of the idea. It’s helpful when I’m listening to a podcast where I want to write down the main ideas, but don’t want to sit still and listen.
How does this connect with my chosen word for the new year? It helps create a relaxing environment that sets the mood for what I want to do next. If it’s not obvious now, my word for the new year is self care.
2018 may have been the year of self care for most people, but it was truly the year where I needed to toughen up a bit. Although I’m not where I want to be in terms of self-confidence, I’ve grown a lot more than I expected to.
Resolutions for this year include the following:
- Learn something new each day
- Do my best each day
- Add more positively to my life
A small list of resolutions, but I’m focusing on creating a cohesive plan and actually going through with it than figuring out every little thing. My habits are little more fleshed out. There’s more planning involved since they’re habits I want to do daily or weekly.
Habits for the new year:
- Write 200 words a day
- It can be fiction, a diary entry, or a blog post
- Practice watercolor, calligraphy, or any other art project
- I can watch a video explaining the technique and follow along with it
- Put on makeup every other day if not every day
- I can wake up earlier so I can look a little more put together every day
- Follow my day and night skincare routine every day
- My skincare items are close to the door so I can start my skincare routine immediately after washing my face
- Post every week on my blog
- I can create a new editorial calendar on Google Calendar
- I use Trello to outline blog posts
- I use Canva to create the images
- Post every week on my YouTube channel
- Similar to the above habit
- Listen to a podcast every day
- I can listen to podcast while practicing my watercolors, calligraphy, etc.
Those are the ones that I’m not too worried about listing to everyone. I do have some personal habits that I won’t go into for privacy reasons. I don’t have to share every piece of myself on the internet even though it already feels like I do. The result of having a blog since around 2012/2013 is that it feels like an obligation to share every small detail with everyone on the internet. I digress, but if you want my thoughts on sharing your life on social media, let me know.
Those are my new year word, resolutions, and habits. A longer list than I thought it would be, however posts don’t usually go the way I planned them sometimes.
